Less Is More - Shades of Grey Challenge

For some reason a wedding/anniversary type card immediately popped into my brain when I saw this challenge at Less Is More.

I used 3 different shades of grey for the scallop border and decided that silver was a good addition too; it not only edges the scallops, but is also on the cake polka dots, ribbon and mat edge as well as the circles behind the image.

I think you can see the shimmer a bit better in this shot.

Card Challenges

There are a couple of card challenges out there that I decided to play along with today.  CASual Fridays is sponsoring a Chevrons and Flowers Challenge (CFC97) this week and Less Is More is hosting a Lime and Black Challenge (Week 114 Colour Challenge). 

Here is my super CAS card.  I used a photo corner die from Sizzix to make the chevrons, tissue tape from Tim Holtz and stamps from Stampin Up (flower) and Blockhead Stamps (sentiment).

I stamped the flower on vellum and then colored the middle with copic YG06.  Love it when it only takes me few minutes to whip up a card.  This will be perfect for my mom who loves to work in her garden.  :)

Clean & Simple

I occasionally participate in some CAS challenges on various blogs.  I made this card for a couple of them, Less Is More: Paper Piercing and CASual Fridays: Hi Ho Silver.

 I've had this stamp for ages but have hardly used it.  Isn't she pretty though?  I stamped her on a separate piece of cardstock and then took some silver Distress Stain and ran it around the edge.  I added a little somethin'-somethin' to her hair by poking little holes following her wavy locks.

Now I just need to find somebody who's getting hitched to send it to...

Kraft & Cream

Kraft is such a versatile color to work with.  I like to pair it with bright, vivid colors, but the challenge this week over at Less Is More is to create a card with only kraft and cream.  Here's what I did:

The flowers are made using a heart punch with scraps of various papers I had laying around - book page, sheet music (colored with walnut ink Distress Stain) and a tag that had been stamped on.  I finished the flowers off with little buttons in brown shades.

My first attempt is quite different.  Still kraft and cream but much busier so I decided it wasn't CAS enough for the challenge.  It makes me chuckle though so here's a peek at that one too.

Hockey All Star

I live with a bunch of hockey players.  In fact, with my husband playing, running a couple of adult leagues and coaching I feel like a bit of a hockey widow sometimes.  Don't even mention the NHL lockout around here...oh, my.

The challenge this week on the Less is More blog is Sports and Exercise and the first thing that came to mind was this hockey player stamp.  One layer challenge too - yikes, those are tricky for me. 

We head down to Portland this weekend for a tournament for one son and the other is guesting for another team.  The first post-lockout NHL game is this Saturday too so somebody is bound to be deserving of an all star card. As for Me?  I'll be freezing in an ice rink or deodorizing a hotel room on an regular basis...ewww...

Gettin' Jiggy With Java

I seem to be accumulating a collection of coffee stamps.  Can't seem to get enough of 'em.  'Tis true enough that I really do enjoy my morning cup (or two or three) and the occasional evening one as well.  I always loved the smell of brewing coffee as a kid too.  The other day I blogged about some coffee thank you cards I made.  I ended up being one shy so whipped up another this morning.  This one I'm entering into a couple of challenges as well, Less Is More Black & White and CASual Friday Thank You. 

 The tag is made from a combo of tapes and border stamps then inked around the edges and topped with a twine/floss combo.

From the same set I made the following card for my Etsy shop; cracks me up and most days I can completely relate!

What I've been up to

...is really more along the lines of frantically driving kids from place to place with a little crafty time in between.  I suspect this is my future for the next several months at least.  All good though as I have had the chance to make some cards. 

I'm going clean and simple this year in hopes that they might actually get SENT before Christmas.  ;)  I love the details on this stamp.  I only added little smidges of glitter on the pine (spruce?) needle tips.

For the next one I punched a circle on a Post It note to create to mask my moon (or sun?) and then dabbed some blue distress ink around the outside.  (In order to keep from having little square splotches I cut the foam irregularly before putting it on the blending tool.)  Bits of clear glitter accent the tree, snow flurry and ground.

I think I'm going to add these to the Less Is More Glamour & Glitz Challenge.  Here are a few better pics of my ornaments from the other day.  These are such a blast to make.
