The 100 Day Project - Days 41-50: Hand-drawn

For some reason it's really hit me this week that purposely creating for 100 days is more of a hike than a stroll.  This officially marks the halfway point; I'll be doing this for a good chunk of the YEAR.  Wow.

But all that aside, for now I've got days 41-50.  I picked my 10-day themes back at the beginning and I'm sure when I picked them I had something in mind.  As each new theme arrives though it seems like it takes a day or two to get my brain in gear.  It's interesting to me that it works that way.  I would have thought that once I got used to creating every day The Muse would just take off like a wild banshee.  Hmmm....  Regardless.  Here goes...

Days 41-50: Hand-drawn theme

Day 41:  A long time ago I made an ATC that was a close-up of a flower.  I love daisies so decided to try my hand a one.  That was a lot of little circles!

Day 42:  Inspired by Kira Nichols' inchie creations...

Day 43:  There was a special event for my youngest (Class of 2020) today.  It was really cool and he and his classmates felt the love.

Day 44: Inspired by some art I spotted on Pinterest today.  It was a last minute decision to add a little bling to the rainbow - glad I did.

Day 45: I DO love my morning cuppa jo...  This mug was given to me by a good friend.  It's much prettier in person.

Day 46:  I love lilacs.  A couple of weeks ago I discovered the wonders of lilac blossom jam...yum!  Hence my 'ode to the lilac' inchie.

Day 74: I see green outside my window every day as I'm in here creating.  Thank you, Mother Nature.

Day 48: I love this one.  I was getting kind of bored with using a black pen on a white background.  The hubs and I were talking about scuba diving the day before and when I sat down to get to work I noticed a scrap of lovely blue watery paper sitting on my desk.  Ta-dah!
Day 49: "The mountains are calling and I must go..."  I want to go camping.
Day 50: Today was a swirly, doodly kind of day...
Woot woot!  50 days down, 50 to go...

The 100 Day Project - Days 31-40: People

So I guess the way it works, for my anyway, is that the first day or so of a new theme is just hard to wrap my head around.  I waited until the end of the day on both the 31st and 32nd day...I just didn't want to make anything.  Hmmmm...there's a lesson there.  Keep going?

Days 31-40: People

Day 31:  Ugh.  I had a vision in my head and this wasn't it.

Day 32: Looking through my creations on Pinterest I came across some abstract face ATCs that I did a long time ago.  I thought that would do the trick this day.

Day 33:  Nope.  Done with drawing - at least for today.  Gathered various bits and pieces.  Pinterest is my friend.  Found an art lesson for kids that got the wheels turning for this inchie.

Day 34:  Hmmm...not sure who or what I was channeling but I had fun with this one.

Day 35:  The Muse was feeling Eric Carle-esque today...

Day 36: Pinterest to the rescue again.  Found a really cool artist who's style I was inspired by.  This was the day I FINALLY got around to making the family some masks, too.  Late to the party but I arrived!

Day 37: Not sure why I came back to drawing, but this was prompted by a pic my son's high school track coach sent to me this morning.  Funny little pic of him as a freshman.

Day 38: Since I did my son yesterday I decided I'd better get one of my daughter in there, too.  I'm liking this Eric Carle mode I've gotten into..
Day 39:  I did my other two progeny so of course I had to do #2 as well.  He looks a little like a confused Jesus.  LOL.  Love you, Dev...
Day 40: Inspired by a photo of one of my little kids from a class a couple of years ago.  :)
That's it for now, my friends.  New theme for the next 10 days coming up...

"Think Upon Me As A Little Leaf..."

My dear ol' dad used to have a saying that we heard a LOT growing up.  You see, we were a household of female energy...it was my mom, my three sisters, me and Dad.  We tend to be a fairly outspoken, strong-minded group and my dad used to joke that he was bossed around and his opinions ignored; this is the origin of his "I'm A Little Leaf" saying.  I had to use it on my Journal Soup 3, Lesson 4 page.

"Think upon me as a little leaf,
Floating down the stream of life,
Pushed hither and yon by every
Breeze and current
Without any course of direction
Of my own..."

Cheers to my dad, The Poet.  Thanks for reminding me that it's cool to be chill on occasion.

The 100 Day Project - Days 21-30: Monochromatic Inchies

This is working for me.  I like having a task to complete each day and these inchies are a great warm-up to get my creative juices flowing.  I don't love all of the finished projects but I'm learning something from each of them.

The theme for this latest series is 'monochromatic'.  Each day I dug around in my stash of papers until one caught my eye and that would be the color of the day.

Day 21:  The red piece with the plus signs on it was the starter for the day.  It was an offcut from an ATC that I failed to measure before finishing.  Oops.  Other pars are washi tape, collaged napkin piece, alcohol ink, stamping, red glitter

Day 22:  The mini calendar scrap was the inspiration for 'blue'.  The other bits are cut or ripped from gelli prints.
Day 23: Dug deep into the stash today to discover an eyelet and embroidery floss.  It's been years since I've pulled out those boxes!  The background is a ferry schedule that I've been using as a mop-up paper.
Day 24: Green became the theme for the day after I saw that Earl Grey tag sitting on my desk.
Day 25:  A mop-up piece of paper is sitting on my desk that has some cool stamped images over orange paint; it caught me eye this morning...Also used washi tape, pen, rhinestone
Day 26:  I found some really cool pink scraps in my stash this morning.

Day 27:  I had been avoiding purple for a few days.  I decided to bite the bullet and started perusing a gardening catalog.  I finally found these purple flowers and then it came together really quickly.
Day 28:  I've been missing my preschool class.  This is my shout-out to my 3- and 4-year-old peeps!  The bear is cut from a gel print scrap...kinda Eric Carle-esque.

Day 29:  I know black technically isn't a color but I went for it anyway.  😉  To add a little texture I embossed onto the black piece.

Day 30: Sometimes you just need to keep it simple.  Modeling paste through a stencil...
And there you have it.  Days 21-30 of inchies.  You can follow my daily progress on Instagram.

Have a creative day.  😊

Masterboard to ATC

Hello again!

I joined a swap over on SwapBot that asked us to create a masterboard and then use it to make some type of mail art.  One of the things I love about creating masterboards is that it truly is more about the process than the end product.  Knowing that it's going to be cut up you can really go for it and if something doesn't feel right you can just cover it up.

I ended up with this ATC.

My masterboard has more than a few layers of patterned paper, gesso, acrylic paint, Neocolors, stamping, gel pen and Pitt pen.  You can't even see the patterned paper anymore but it does add some bits of texture.

It felt pretty busy to me, but knowing I was cutting it up I just went for it.
When I'm working on a project I have a paper on my desk that I use to clean off brushes, stamp off stamps, etc.  I usually keep these mop up papers in my stash as they get really interesting over time.  I'm tempted to pull a few out to create some more masterboards.

I hope you're able to take some time to get artsy.  It's good for the soul!
